A California man was arrested by the FBI on Thursday morning during a planned operation in Los Angeles, as part of an ongoing federal investigation into recent civil unrest tied to anti-immigration enforcement protests.
Alejandro Theodoro Orellana, the suspect, was taken into custody at his home. He faces charges of conspiracy to commit civil disorder after federal agents identified him as a suspected supplier of tactical equipment used during the recent riots.

Footage circulating on social media prior to the arrest appeared to show Orellana handing out specialized protective masks — described by observers as “bionic shields” — to individuals participating in demonstrations that escalated into violence earlier this month.
Federal officials believe the gear may have played a role in enabling the confrontational tactics seen during the protests.
U.S. Attorney Bill Essayli, speaking to Fox News following the arrest, confirmed that Orellana is believed to be part of a broader support network behind the unrest. “This is part of a larger federal effort to track individuals who are organizing, supporting, or facilitating these events,” he said. “We believe today’s arrest marks a significant step forward in that process.”
The federal response comes amid intensifying protests across the country related to President Donald Trump’s latest immigration enforcement actions. Los Angeles has been the epicenter of demonstrations following the President’s decision to deploy U.S. Marines and National Guard troops in support of ICE operations.
The move has drawn sharp criticism from state leaders. California Governor Gavin Newsom denounced the military presence, calling it a dangerous precedent. “This isn’t just about immigration — it’s about how we define our values and our democracy,” Newsom stated during a press briefing.
Elsewhere, federal prosecutors have been instructed to prioritize charges against individuals engaged in protest-related violence. An internal Department of Justice memo, reviewed by multiple media outlets, directs U.S. Attorneys to expedite cases and increase public transparency through regular press releases.
Authorities have not yet disclosed additional suspects or whether further arrests are anticipated. A court date for Orellana has not yet been scheduled.
As tensions continue to rise, federal agencies have reiterated their commitment to maintaining public safety while investigating those suspected of fueling or organizing the violence.
