Sen. John Kennedy Blasts Newsom, Waters, and Media Over Violent Protests: “Cops Aren’t the Problem”

Senator John Kennedy (R-La.) unleashed a scathing rebuke this week aimed at California Governor Gavin Newsom, Rep. Maxine Waters (D-Calif.), and national media outlets, accusing them of downplaying violent unrest and undermining public safety in Democrat-run cities.

In a televised interview, Kennedy addressed the wave of riots, arson, looting, and attacks on law enforcement gripping major cities—particularly in California—and called out what he described as blatant hypocrisy and dangerous rhetoric from the left.

“Somebody Needs to Tell Her…”

Kennedy didn’t hold back when discussing Rep. Maxine Waters, who has previously drawn criticism for incendiary remarks during protests.

“I mean no disrespect to Congresswoman Waters,” Kennedy said, “but somebody needs to tell her that the voices in her head are not real.”

“Mostly Peaceful” Media Spin Blasted

The senator then ripped into mainstream media outlets for their portrayal of the unrest.

“I’ve listened to so many of my colleagues and members of the media say these are ‘mostly peaceful protests,’” Kennedy said. “That’s like saying Harvey Weinstein is mostly a feminist because he didn’t rape every woman who walked into his office—just some.”

Kennedy: Newsom Thinks Cops Are the Problem

Kennedy also accused Governor Gavin Newsom of failing to protect Californians and siding against law enforcement.

“In terms of Governor Newsom, he flip-flops constantly—but one thing he’s been consistent on is his hostility toward everyday Americans and public safety,” Kennedy stated.

“Governor Newsom is, by every measure, the dictionary definition of a weenie,” he added. “He thinks cops are a bigger problem than criminals. If a cop shoots a criminal, it’s always the cop’s fault. If a criminal shoots a cop, it’s somehow the gun’s fault.”

“Cops Will Leave You Alone Unless You Break the Law”

Senator Kennedy concluded with what he called a “simple truth” that’s being ignored:

“Cops will leave you alone unless you do illegal stuff. That’s what we’re seeing in California—lawlessness is being enabled, and police are being blamed for trying to stop it.”

Protests Escalate, Law Enforcement Responds

His comments come as violent protests continue to rage across cities like Los Angeles, resulting in burned vehicles, vandalized businesses, and injured officers. Reports from law enforcement agencies in California indicate a sharp rise in violent incidents tied to the unrest.

In response, National Guard and Marine units have been deployed in parts of Los Angeles to support strained local police forces.

Despite these developments, Gov. Newsom, Rep. Waters, and other California Democrats defended their policies, insisting that isolated violence should not overshadow what they call legitimate expressions of civil discontent. They’ve also criticized coverage they claim misrepresents peaceful protests.

“The Divide Couldn’t Be Clearer”

Kennedy’s blistering remarks reflect growing Republican frustration with what they view as lenient leadership, media bias, and double standards in addressing law and order. His unfiltered style and sharp analogies drew immediate attention, emphasizing the broader rift between state and federal leaders over how to restore order.
