The White House has fired back at Elon Musk following his explosive accusations against former President Donald Trump, as tensions between the two high-profile figures continue to escalate.
White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt addressed the brewing feud during appearances on both CNN and Fox News, describing Musk’s public attacks on Trump as an “unfortunate episode.”
Once allies, Musk and Trump’s relationship has taken a sharp downturn. The conflict intensified after Musk criticized Trump’s recently proposed legislation, known as the “One Big Beautiful Bill.” Trump expressed his disappointment in Musk’s stance, and the disagreement soon spilled into a highly publicized clash on social media.
The situation escalated further when Musk made an unverified claim that Trump is implicated in the Jeffrey Epstein files — documents that have drawn widespread attention due to their connection with the late financier’s sex trafficking scandal.
“Time to drop the really big bomb: @realDonaldTrump is in the Epstein files,” Musk posted on X (formerly Twitter), suggesting that Trump’s inclusion is the reason the files haven’t been fully released. “That is the real reason they have not been made public. Have a nice day, DJT!” Musk followed up with: “Mark this post for the future. The truth will come out.” However, he offered no concrete evidence to support his statements.
Jeffrey Epstein died in jail in August 2019 while awaiting trial for sex trafficking. Authorities ruled his death a suicide, though it has fueled widespread speculation and conspiracy theories.
In response to Musk’s claims and criticism, Leavitt defended the former president and his legislative priorities. Speaking to CNN, she said, “This is an unfortunate episode from Elon, who is unhappy with the One Big Beautiful Bill because it does not include the policies he wanted. The President is focused on passing this historic piece of legislation and making our country great again.”
On Fox News’ Hannity, Leavitt further clarified Trump’s position and downplayed the dispute: “Just days ago, Elon thanked the president for his leadership in cutting government waste and fraud, which this bill addresses.”
She added, “Elon may be speaking from a business standpoint, which is his right, but President Trump has the responsibility of putting the nation first.”
Leavitt described the bill as “the most historic piece of legislation that has moved through Capitol Hill in modern history,” highlighting its tax cuts and alignment with Trump’s campaign promises.
Despite Musk’s provocative remarks, the White House remains focused on pushing forward its legislative agenda while brushing off the billionaire’s attacks.
