President Donald Trump lit up Truth Social on Tuesday morning with explosive accusations against Senator Adam Schiff (D-CA), alleging that Schiff committed mortgage fraud by falsely claiming his Maryland home as a primary residence — while serving as a congressman for California.
“I always suspected Shifty Adam Schiff was a scam artist,” Trump wrote. “Now I learn that Fannie Mae’s Financial Crimes Division concluded that Schiff engaged in a sustained pattern of possible Mortgage Fraud.”
Trump’s post pointed to a series of mortgage transactions dating back to 2009, when Schiff allegedly refinanced a Maryland property by claiming it was his primary home — a designation that allows borrowers to secure lower interest rates and more favorable loan terms.
“Adam Schiff said that his primary residence was in MARYLAND to get a cheaper mortgage and rip off America,” Trump wrote. “When he must LIVE in CALIFORNIA because he was a Congressman from CALIFORNIA.”
Trump further alleged that the fraud continued until October 13, 2020, when Schiff finally updated the designation to reflect the Maryland home as a second property.
Federal Ethics Complaint Already on the Record
The accusation comes months after a bombshell ethics complaint — first reported by the USA Herald in May — revealed that Christine Bish and Darren Ellis filed a formal grievance in October 2024, accusing Schiff of:
-
Mortgage fraud
-
Voter fraud
-
Unlawful campaign filings
The complaint alleged misconduct spanning more than 20 years.
Patterns Emerging?
This isn’t the first time the Trump administration has called out political rivals for financial misdeeds. In May 2025, New York Attorney General Letitia James came under fire amid a criminal mortgage fraud probe initiated by the Federal Housing Finance Agency, under Director Bill Pulte.
The Trump team seems poised to make allegations of financial corruption a central theme of its second-term narrative — especially as campaign season intensifies.
REACTIONS POUR IN ONLINE
Trump supporters on Truth Social and X (formerly Twitter) erupted following the post, demanding Schiff face criminal charges and Senate ethics investigation.
“If an average American tried this trick, they’d be in federal prison,” one user wrote.
“We’ve seen enough. Time to bring Schiff to justice,” echoed another.
Critics, however, accused Trump of launching a political smear campaign to deflect from his own legal entanglements and ongoing Senate opposition.
What’s Next?
No formal charges have been filed as of Tuesday, and Sen. Schiff’s office has not issued a public response. The Department of Justice and Fannie Mae have also not confirmed or denied an ongoing investigation.
However, the pressure is mounting — and Trump’s post has effectively forced the story into national headlines.
