Trump Threatens Rosie O’Donnell’s Citizenship — She Responds From Ireland With Blistering Attack
The long-running feud between President Donald Trump and comedian Rosie O’Donnell just escalated in dramatic fashion.
Over the weekend, Trump took to Truth Social to label O’Donnell a “Threat to Humanity,” even suggesting he was “seriously considering” revoking her U.S. citizenship — a legally impossible move, but one that sent shockwaves across social media.
“Because of the fact that Rosie O’Donnell is not in the best interests of our Great Country, I am giving serious consideration to taking away her Citizenship,” Trump posted. “She is a Threat to Humanity and should remain in the wonderful Country of Ireland, if they want her. GOD BLESS AMERICA!”
O’Donnell, who relocated to Howth, Ireland, in early 2025 following Trump’s re-election, responded swiftly and fiercely. The 63-year-old comedian posted a barrage of Instagram Stories, including one showing Trump alongside disgraced financier Jeffrey Epstein.
She didn’t hold back in her response:
“Hey Donald – you’re rattled again? 18 years later and I still live rent-free in that collapsing brain of yours,” she wrote. “You call me a threat to humanity — but I’m everything you fear: a loud woman, a queer woman, a mother who tells the truth. An American who got out of the country before you set it ablaze.”
Their feud dates back to 2006, when O’Donnell publicly criticized Trump on The View, prompting Trump to insult her appearance and manner of speaking in a series of TV interviews. The hostility reignited during the 2015 GOP debate when Trump infamously said, “Only Rosie O’Donnell,” in response to questions about his treatment of women.
Now, nearly two decades later, the hostility has resurfaced at the highest political level — with Trump back in the White House and O’Donnell taking public swipes from abroad.
Legally, Trump’s suggestion to revoke her citizenship holds no merit. U.S. citizens cannot lose their nationality due to political disagreements or dual citizenship. O’Donnell, born in New York, retains her American citizenship despite applying for Irish citizenship earlier this year.
O’Donnell said her decision to leave the U.S. was deeply personal, citing her child’s special needs and the increasingly polarized political climate. “Coming to Ireland was totally a way to take care of myself and my non-binary autistic child,” she told NewsNation. “He’s [Trump] threatening to cut all the services we need.”
She also revealed the emotional toll of Trump’s presidency, describing how she struggled with depression, overeating, and alcohol during his first term.
Despite the personal nature of the conflict, O’Donnell made one thing clear in her latest posts: she won’t be silenced.
“You crave loyalty — I teach my children to question power,” she wrote. “You lie, you steal, you degrade — I nurture, I create, I persist. You are everything that is wrong with America… I’m not yours to silence. I never was.”
