FBI Director Kash Patel is pushing back hard against a wave of speculation surrounding his possible resignation from the Trump administration over internal disagreements tied to the Jeffrey Epstein investigation.
In a statement posted to X (formerly Twitter) on Saturday, Patel directly addressed growing rumors that he and Deputy Director Dan Bongino were preparing to leave their roles over a clash with Attorney General Pam Bondi.
“The conspiracy theories just aren’t true, never have been,” Patel wrote. “It’s an honor to serve the President of the United States @realDonaldTrump — and I’ll continue to do so for as long as he calls on me.”
The statement followed 24 hours of online speculation and media reports claiming Patel, Bongino, and Bondi had engaged in a heated exchange during a recent White House meeting. The topic: a DOJ memo released last weekend which dismissed the existence of an Epstein “client list” and stated no further documents would be released from the case.
Bondi — once praised in MAGA circles for saying she had possession of explosive Epstein files — is now under fire for reversing course.
The DOJ memo’s tone and timing triggered backlash among Trump supporters and conservative influencers. Some accused the administration of stonewalling, while others blamed Bondi directly.
MAGA commentator Laura Loomer, who first reported Bongino’s alleged frustration, claimed the FBI had wanted more transparency but was blocked by Bondi. Loomer also asserted Bongino had taken the day off in protest, and that a resignation could be imminent if Bondi remains at DOJ.
So far, Bongino has remained silent. His official X account has yet to address the controversy, fueling further questions about his next move.
Amid the storm, Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche also attempted to shut down rumors of a split. “I worked closely with [Patel] and [Bongino] on the joint FBI and DOJ memo regarding the Epstein Files,” Blanche posted on X. “All of us signed off on the contents of the memo and the conclusions stated in the memo. The suggestion by anyone that there was any daylight between the FBI and DOJ leadership on this memo’s composition and release is patently false.”
But critics aren’t convinced. Many in conservative media remain skeptical, pointing to Bondi’s past promises and growing grassroots frustration with the memo’s denials.
White House Principal Deputy Press Secretary Harrison Fields also weighed in, issuing a rare public statement defending the administration’s unity.
“President Trump has assembled a highly qualified and experienced law and order team dedicated to protecting Americans, holding criminals accountable, and delivering justice to victims,” he said. “Any attempt to sow division within this team is baseless and distracts from the real progress being made.”
Bondi has not backed down and, according to Florida’s Voice, told Fox News she has “every intention to stay and serve.”
As the Epstein case once again captures the public’s attention, the apparent rift — real or perceived — underscores the political and emotional weight still surrounding America’s most infamous unsolved scandal.
