Democrats Launch ‘Project 2029’ to Reclaim the White House — Critics Say It’s Already Struggling
Democratic strategist Andrei Cherny is leading a new campaign plan aimed at winning back the White House in 2028. The effort, called Project 2029, hopes to give the next Democratic nominee a strong and unified policy platform.
Inspired by the conservative Project 2025, Cherny wants Democrats to start planning early. He believes a lack of clear ideas helped cost the party the 2024 election. “You can’t beat something with nothing,” he told The New York Times.
However, the project is already facing criticism. Some insiders say the Democratic Party is too divided for any single strategy to work.
Political analyst Adolph Mongo said the party has lost touch with key voters. “The far left has destroyed the party,” he told DCNF. “Black and brown voters are leaving. Cities under Democratic control are full of crime and unemployment.”
Others agree. Newsmax host Tom Basile said the party’s leftward shift is hurting its message. “They don’t have credible messengers,” he said. “Voters see a party run by AOC, Bernie Sanders, and Zohran Mamdani — all socialists.”
That may be true. Mamdani recently won the Democratic primary for New York City mayor, sparking debate over the party’s future direction.
The Democratic National Committee (DNC) is also facing internal conflict and money problems. Major donors have pulled back. According to The Times, fundraising is at historic lows.
“Delivering a message takes both trust and money,” Basile added. “Right now, they don’t have either.”
Some strategists doubt whether any potential 2028 candidate can unite the party. Others worry that recent votes for tax hikes will further alienate middle-class voters.
“Democrats in the Senate just voted for the largest tax hike in American history,” Basile noted.
In contrast, former President Donald Trump continues to rally support from working Americans. Basile said Trump’s platform appeals to voters who feel left behind.
“He’s giving power back to people,” he said. “Democrats are stuck pushing radical social issues while ignoring real problems.”
Although Project 2029 is just beginning, critics say it may already be too late.
