Support from younger voters rebounds amid national unrest and immigration crackdown
President Donald Trump received a boost this week from a key voter demographic, as a new poll from The Economist/YouGov shows a significant rise in his approval rating among millennials.
According to the survey released Tuesday, Trump now enjoys a 42% approval rating among millennial voters — a noticeable jump from 36% just one week earlier. The latest survey was conducted between June 27 and June 30 among 1,648 U.S. adults and carries a margin of error of ±3.3%.
Trump’s previous approval rating among millennials had peaked at 48% during his second term, with notable highs in February and June, according to Newsweek. His approval had dropped to 36% in late June before rebounding sharply this week.
Analysts point to recent national events — particularly Trump’s handling of the ongoing riots in Los Angeles — as a likely factor behind the shift. The unrest, which began after a federal immigration crackdown, has stirred strong reactions across the political spectrum.
Voters have expressed increased confidence in Trump’s crisis management, according to Morning Consult. Their latest data shows 50% of voters overall now approve of the president’s performance, with 44% disapproving — a four-point swing from May. This marks Trump’s highest approval rating since January, when optimism about his second term was at its peak.
In Morning Consult’s global leader rankings, Trump also performed solidly, ranking as the seventh most popular leader among democratic nations. He trails India’s Narendra Modi and Argentina’s Javier Milei but outpaces leaders like U.K. Prime Minister Keir Starmer.
With the 2026 midterm elections approaching, Trump’s team is likely to see this data as validation of their hardline stances on immigration and law enforcement, particularly as support climbs among younger voters — a group that has often leaned away from him in the past.
