Elizabeth Warren Under Fire for Sending Wildfire Donations Through ActBlue—Critics Call for Federal Investigation

Senator Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) is facing mounting criticism and potential legal scrutiny after directing wildfire relief donations through ActBlue—a Democratic fundraising platform known to skim a percentage off the top.

Warren came under fire for a January 11, 2025, social media post urging followers to donate to California wildfire victims. She promised that “100%” of contributions would go directly to relief groups, naming the Los Angeles Fire Department Foundation and United Way of Greater Los Angeles as the intended recipients.

But the donation link didn’t go to either of those organizations directly—it routed donors through ActBlue, a left-wing fundraising platform that charges a 4% processing fee on donations.

Conservative commentators immediately accused Warren of misleading donors and funneling crisis relief dollars into a partisan fundraising apparatus. Tim Young called it “a scam to fundraise for Democrat campaigns,” while others labeled it “fraud” and “a disgraceful exploitation of disaster victims.”

The X account Libs of TikTok commented, “We recognize your malevolence, but this is unprecedented.” Another viral post claimed, “Democrats are exploiting the LA fires to fundraise for their political PAC. The lowest of the low.”

Prominent influencer Mila Joy escalated matters in May by calling on Attorney General Pam Bondi and FBI Director Kash Patel to launch an investigation. “It’s fraud,” she posted. “It won’t stop unless we stop it.”

Critics argue that Warren knowingly misled her followers by claiming the full donation amount would go to charity, while ActBlue’s 4% cut went toward a platform that also channels funds into Democrat political campaigns.

To date, Warren has not publicly clarified the use of ActBlue or responded to calls for investigation.

The scandal has fueled broader concerns about Democrat fundraising tactics and transparency in political-charity crossover efforts. Many conservatives are comparing it to other recent controversies involving the alleged misuse of charitable funds for political gain.

Adding fuel to the fire, Elon Musk recently commented that ActBlue is under investigation for allowing illegal foreign donations, suggesting that the platform may already be on the radar of federal investigators.

Whether this controversy fades or turns into a formal legal battle may depend on how aggressively Republicans push for action—and how Warren responds.
