President Donald Trump fired a sharp attack Tuesday against Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) and two other Democratic congresswomen after Ocasio-Cortez called for his impeachment over his unilateral decision to bomb Iran without congressional approval.
On his social media platform Truth Social, Trump harshly criticized Ocasio-Cortez’s intelligence and appearance, dubbing her “Stupid AOC” and “The Mouse.” He also insulted Reps. Ilhan Omar (Minnesota) and Jasmine Crockett (Texas), labeling Crockett a “seriously Low IQ individual” and disparaging Omar’s home country.
Trump’s comments came three days after Ocasio-Cortez declared that the president’s Iran strike “is absolutely and clearly grounds for impeachment.” While many Democrats criticized the lack of congressional consultation, few have publicly advocated impeachment over the strike.
Responding to Trump’s personal attacks, Ocasio-Cortez posted on X (formerly Twitter), “Mr. President, don’t take your anger out on me — I’m just a silly girl. Take it out on whoever convinced you to betray the American people and our Constitution by illegally bombing Iran and dragging us into war. It only took you 5 months to break almost every promise you made.”
Trump’s aggressive rhetoric follows a pattern of targeting female Democratic opponents with degrading language, emphasizing his low opinion of Ocasio-Cortez’s fitness for office while contrasting her qualifications with Crockett’s in disparaging terms.
Trump also criticized Rep. Omar, who fled Somalia as a child refugee and became the first African refugee to serve in Congress, attacking her for “complaining about our Country” while disparaging Somalia’s government and conditions. Omar’s office declined to comment on the remarks, and Crockett did not respond to requests for comment.
Within Congress, Democratic leadership has largely steered clear of impeachment efforts related to the Iran strike. Rep. Al Green (Texas) filed a resolution to impeach Trump for what he called an “illegal and unconstitutional war with Iran.” However, the House voted overwhelmingly (344-79) to table Green’s resolution, with a significant number of Democrats joining Republicans to kill the effort.
House Democratic Caucus Chair Rep. Pete Aguilar (California) stressed the party’s focus on legislative priorities, calling impeachment talks a “distraction” at this time.
Trump’s verbal assault also included telling Ocasio-Cortez to “go back home to Queens … and straighten out her filthy, disgusting, crime-ridden streets,” despite New York City’s crime rates being lower than many other urban areas. Ocasio-Cortez, representing parts of the Bronx and Queens, proudly embraced her roots in a sharp reply: “I’m a Bronx girl. You should know that we can eat Queens boys for breakfast. Respectfully.”
As impeachment discussions continue to simmer, Trump’s exchanges with vocal critics like Ocasio-Cortez highlight the deep partisan and personal conflicts shaping the current political landscape.
