The growing rift within the Trump administration over the Iran conflict just took a shocking turn.
Retired Lt. Gen. Michael Flynn, once a key figure in Trump’s inner circle, is now publicly claiming that Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard was “set up” by the U.S. intelligence community during her early weeks on the job. His claim has reignited questions not only about Iran’s nuclear ambitions—but about who’s really pulling the strings in Washington.
According to Flynn, Gabbard’s March testimony to Congress—where she stated Iran was not currently building a nuclear weapon—was based on intelligence that may have been deliberately misleading. “That was a setup,” Flynn told conservative commentator Benny Johnson, adding that Gabbard was relying on briefings from officials mostly left over from the Obama and Biden eras.
The implication? That entrenched intelligence operatives may have handed Gabbard false or incomplete information, knowing she would repeat it under oath in front of lawmakers and the American people.
Gabbard, a former Democratic congresswoman and military veteran turned Trump ally, has since clarified her remarks. In a viral post on X, she slammed the media for “deliberately distorting” her words and emphasized that Iran could produce a nuclear weapon in mere weeks if it decided to cross the line.
President Trump, however, publicly stated that Gabbard’s testimony was “incorrect”—a rare rebuke within his tightly controlled team. Yet Vice President JD Vance rushed to her defense, calling her a “vital” and “indispensable” part of Trump’s national security apparatus.
This high-stakes clash has stirred speculation online about whether Gabbard was intentionally misinformed in order to sow doubt or division inside Trump’s camp. Was she a target of a bureaucratic ambush? Or is this just a case of growing pains in a high-pressure intelligence post?
