On June 15, 2025, Representative LaMonica McIver (D-New Jersey) appeared on MSNBC to address serious federal assault charges related to a confrontation outside a federal detention center last month.
The charges stem from an incident on May 19 at the Delaney Hall Detention Facility in Newark, New Jersey, where McIver, along with fellow Democrats Representatives Robert Menendez Jr. and Bonnie Watson Coleman, attempted to enter the facility for a planned tour.
During the interview, McIver was pressed on allegations made by Border Czar Tom Homan, who claimed she “shoved” a law enforcement officer during the incident. When asked directly if Homan’s statement was false, McIver’s response was unfocused and rambling, avoiding a clear denial or admission.
The situation escalated quickly that day, with a tense crowd gathering and law enforcement present to maintain order. Authorities have since filed federal assault charges against McIver, citing her actions during the altercation.
