In a political twist that’s leaving Democrats stunned, immigrant voters are now siding with Donald Trump and the GOP on one of the most hot-button issues of the decade: immigration enforcement.
Following ICE raids in Los Angeles that led to 150 suspected illegal immigrants being detained, the city erupted in violent riots over the weekend. Businesses were torched, police were assaulted, and one person is confirmed dead. The unrest prompted President Trump to deploy thousands of National Guard troops and Marines to restore order. “If we didn’t do the job, that place would be burning down,” Trump said Monday. “I don’t want to see what happened so many times in this country.”
But despite the chaos, public opinion is now firmly tilting in Trump’s favor—and in a surprising twist, much of that momentum is coming from the very communities Democrats assumed they had locked down.
NEW POLL: IMMIGRANTS BACK TRUMP ON IMMIGRATION
According to a bombshell CNN poll, foreign-born voters have dramatically shifted rightward on immigration. CNN’s Harry Enten revealed:
“A 40-point shift to the right among immigrant voters. Republicans now lead on this issue by 8 points over Democrats. More so than any other group.”
That’s right—immigrants themselves are now the most hawkish group on immigration policy, flipping from a 32-point Democrat advantage in 2020 to an 8-point GOP lead in 2025. These are voters who came to the U.S. legally—and now they want the law enforced.
A separate CBS News poll confirmed the trend, showing:
-
54% support Trump’s immigration agenda
-
42% say it makes the U.S. safer
-
Just 30% disagree
TRUMP’S TOUGH STANCE GAINS TRACTION
Amid calls for mass deportations, Trump’s unapologetic message is resonating. While Democrats label his policies as “inhumane,” more voters—especially those who followed the rules to come here legally—are backing his crackdown.
The administration maintains that ICE is targeting dangerous criminals, not families or workers, and that media outrage is being weaponized to stir unrest. Trump’s blunt response to critics: “We had no choice. We had to restore order.”
