Senator Lindsey Graham (R-SC) has come under fire from the public and possibly from within the Trump administration following comments and video clips critics say are hindering President Donald Trump’s efforts to broker peace in the Russia-Ukraine conflict.
During a recent trip to Ukraine, Graham made statements that some view as complicating the peace process. In a video posted on X, he declared that Congress is ready to act against Russia even if President Trump does not support such measures.
Graham also praised Ukraine for a recent drone attack, posting on X: “The resourceful Ukraine used innovative drone tactics to successfully strike Russian bombers and military targets responsible for harm to Ukrainian civilians and destruction.”
He further implied that if Russia agreed to a ceasefire and entered negotiations, it would limit the U.S. ability to leverage its position. Steve Bannon, former Trump strategist and current War Room podcast host, strongly criticized Graham’s conduct during the Kyiv visit.
According to reports from The Hill, Bannon said Graham should be arrested if he continues to travel abroad and “stir the pot” in Ukraine. Bannon expressed frustration over the Ukrainian drone strike that destroyed numerous Russian bombers deep inside Russia, warning about rising tensions.
Bannon insisted the White House must promptly condemn the strike and rein in Graham’s diplomatic activities, which he claims only escalate the conflict. “The White House must condemn this immediately, withdraw all support, and order Lindsey Graham to return home—or he should be arrested upon arrival. He’s stirring things up,” Bannon said.
He also accused Graham of acting without Trump’s knowledge by meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, though it remains unclear if Graham had informed the White House beforehand.
“Lindsey Graham is over there saying, ‘Forget Trump. I control the House and Senate. We’re going to push this through. You’ll see results soon,’” Bannon added. “He’s causing trouble over there.”
