In a surprising turn of events, Elon Musk has hinted at softening his stance toward President Donald Trump, signaling a possible thaw in their public spat after an unexpected voice of reason entered the conversation.
The unexpected mediator? A little-known X user with just 17 followers.
The user, @Fab25june, responded to Musk during Thursday’s online exchanges by writing: “This is a shame, this back and forth. You are both better than this. Cool off and take a step back for a couple of days.” Musk—who had spent much of the day sharply criticizing Trump and his economic policy proposals—replied with a surprisingly conciliatory message: “Good advice. Ok, we won’t decommission Dragon.”
The reference to Dragon, SpaceX’s flagship spacecraft, may have been tongue-in-cheek, but the sentiment was clear: Musk was willing to consider de-escalation.
The brief exchange caught fire online, with some users joking that peace between billionaires and presidents may come not from political operatives, but from small voices lost in the digital noise.
Others joined in the call for unity. Billionaire investor Bill Ackman urged both men to make amends, writing, “I support @realDonaldTrump and @elonmusk and they should make peace for the benefit of our great country. We are much stronger together than apart.” Musk responded with a brief, but telling, “You’re not wrong.”
Despite Musk’s apparent shift in tone, Trump seemed uninterested in burying the hatchet.
Speaking to CNN’s Dana Bash on Friday, the former president dismissed reconciliation efforts, saying, “I’m not even thinking about Elon. He’s got a problem. The poor guy’s got a problem.” Trump’s response came just a day after the two traded sharp jabs on social media over Trump’s signature economic legislation, known as the “One Big Beautiful Bill.”
What started as a policy disagreement quickly spiraled into personal insults, with Musk labeling the bill a “disgusting abomination” and accusing Trump of showing “ingratitude” for past support.
While a full reconciliation seems unlikely at this stage, Musk’s unexpected openness to cooling tensions may signal a new phase in this high-profile feud—one shaped just as much by ordinary users as by power brokers.
