Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) is pushing back forcefully after President Donald Trump publicly branded her a “traitor,” saying the accusation is not only false but potentially dangerous. In an interview on CNN’s State of the Union, Greene said the former president’s words have already prompted harassment and threats, and could escalate further if left unchecked.
Greene, long one of Trump’s fiercest loyalists on Capitol Hill, has recently found herself in direct conflict with him following political disagreements, public criticism, and a series of policy fissures forming between the two. Trump’s decision last week to officially withdraw his endorsement of Greene—and to do so with language that scorched one of his most enthusiastic supporters—has now touched off an escalating and deeply public rift inside the Republican Party.
Greene: Trump’s Words “Radicalize People Against Me”
Speaking with Dana Bash on Sunday, Greene said she was stunned to see Trump refer to her as a “traitor,” arguing that the accusation could inspire unstable individuals to target her.
“The most hurtful thing he said, which is absolutely untrue, is he called me a traitor,” Greene said. “Those are the types of words used that can radicalize people against me and put my life in danger.”
Greene added that she has long been the subject of threats due to her public political presence, her association with Trump, and her reputation as one of the most outspoken conservative members of Congress. But this, she argued, is different because the rhetoric is coming from Trump himself—someone whose words carry enormous influence among Republican voters.
“It’s extremely wrong. It’s dangerous. It’s not what anyone should be saying about a member of their own party,” she said.

Trump Withdraws Support, Calls Greene a “Ranting Lunatic”
Greene’s comments came after Trump wrote on Truth Social Friday that he would no longer endorse her for reelection, accusing her of attacking him, failing to promote his successes, and even “going far left”—a charge Greene said is preposterous given her voting record and legislative priorities.
Trump did not hold back:
-
He called Greene a “traitor.”
-
He described her as a “ranting lunatic.”
-
He claimed she was “upset” that he wasn’t returning her calls.
-
He vowed to support any conservative challenger who runs against her in 2026.
Trump’s criticism marks the most dramatic fracture to date between the former president and Greene, who has built her national brand largely on being one of his most aggressive defenders, both in media appearances and in Congress.
Greene disputed many of Trump’s assertions, saying she did not call him repeatedly but instead texted him—and even provided screenshots to CNN.
Greene Says Threats Have Begun—Including Pizza Hoaxes and a Pipe Bomb Warning
Shortly after Trump’s attack on her, Greene said she began receiving the kinds of harassment she has become familiar with over the years—but this time, she believes it is being fueled by Trump and his allies.
On X, she posted a message saying:
“The hoax pizza deliveries have started now, to my house and my family members.”
She then added a far more serious allegation:
“Update: we also received a pipe bomb threat on my construction company’s office building.”
Greene said she has dealt with such situations before—swatting attempts, death threats, and attempts to intimidate her family—but the difference now is the political direction they are coming from.
In her statement, she wrote:
“President Trump’s unwarranted and vicious attacks against me were a dog whistle to dangerous radicals that could lead to serious attacks on me and my family.”
Greene reminded her followers that she faced these threats in past years while campaigning for Trump around the country. She noted that multiple people who made death threats against her were eventually convicted.
“But now,” she said, “the danger is coming from our own side.”
Greene: “I Am Not a Traitor”
In her lengthy written statement, Greene defended her record as a conservative Republican who has consistently supported Trump’s agenda and voted reliably with the party’s right flank.
“I love America and the American people, and I swore an oath to uphold the Constitution,” she wrote. “I am not a traitor.”
She also argued that Trump’s rhetoric is irresponsible and escalatory:
“When the President of the United States irresponsibly calls a Member of Congress of his own party a traitor, he is signaling what must be done to a traitor.”
Greene said such language sends a message that is dangerous and unnecessary—and one that could result in real-world consequences.
Timing Sparks Questions—Greene Suggests Epstein Vote May Be Connected
Greene also suggested that her support for releasing all remaining files tied to the Jeffrey Epstein scandal may have contributed to Trump’s anger. She noted that Trump’s public attack on her occurred just days before the House is set to vote on whether to release a trove of documents connected to Epstein’s crimes and associates.
“It just happens to be days before we take the vote on releasing the Epstein files,” she wrote. “Apparently that’s what sent him over the edge.”
Trump has since publicly urged Republicans to release the files, but Greene’s statement suggests she believes the timing was not coincidental.
Trump’s Criticism Comes After Weeks of Growing Distance
The relationship between Greene and Trump has been unstable for weeks. Behind the scenes, Greene has reportedly been frustrated with what she sees as a lack of communication from Trump’s inner circle. Meanwhile, Trump allies have increasingly criticized Greene for taking public shots at fellow Republicans and for becoming, in their view, too unpredictable.
However, Greene rejected Trump’s claim that she had “gone far left” as absurd and dishonest. She pointed to her voting history—one of the most conservative in Congress—and her long list of public defenses of Trump.
“I fought harder than anyone to help President Trump get elected,” she wrote. “My voting record is one of the most conservative in Congress and I’m very proud of that.”
Greene Calls for an End to Political “Toxicity”
Despite her blistering rebuttal, Greene said she hopes the political environment becomes less hostile and more constructive.
“The toxic and dangerous rhetoric in politics must end,” she said. “We need healing in this country for all Americans.”
Greene’s remarks echo those she made earlier in the week when she apologized for her own role in escalating political hostility, acknowledging that she has previously contributed to the “toxic politics” she now condemns.
Yet her split with Trump represents one of the most dramatic breaks within the MAGA movement since its inception. The fallout is likely to play out over months, especially as Greene prepares for the possibility of a Trump-backed primary challenger in 2026.
Trump Continues Applying Pressure
In the aftermath of Greene’s statements, Trump has doubled down on his position, urging House Republicans to make the Epstein files public and continuing to signal to his supporters that Greene is no longer aligned with him.
That has left Greene in the precarious position of defending her political identity while attempting to protect herself and her family from threats she believes are now coming from within her own base.
For a lawmaker who built her brand around unflinching loyalty to Trump, the sudden rupture presents the biggest political challenge of her career—and may reshape the dynamics of the GOP heading into the next election cycle.
