PALM BEACH, FL — Former President Donald Trump is once again igniting political debate after demanding the appointment of a special prosecutor to investigate alleged fraud in the 2020 presidential election.
In a Truth Social post published Thursday, Trump doubled down on his long-standing claims that the election was stolen and insisted that only a special counsel can bring justice to what he described as “one of the greatest political crimes in American history.”
“Zero border crossings under TRUMP. Over 60,000 under Crooked Joe. The man didn’t win the election — he lost by a LANDSLIDE!” Trump wrote. “The evidence of fraud is overwhelming. It’s time for a Special Prosecutor. Let the work begin!”
This marks Trump’s first direct call in 2025 for a prosecutor specifically tasked with reviewing the 2020 election results and the conduct of government institutions during that period. He accused President Biden and his administration of running a “corrupt machine” that eroded public trust.
Though legal challenges following the 2020 election were widely rejected by courts, Trump and his supporters have continued to raise concerns about mail-in voting irregularities, ballot handling, and what they allege was partisan censorship by media and Big Tech.
Trump’s statement comes as conservative lawmakers and activist groups renew their own calls for election transparency and accountability. Many point to the Hunter Biden laptop controversy—heavily suppressed by platforms like Twitter and Facebook during the 2020 campaign—as evidence of collusion to influence the outcome.
In 2023, documents released by the House Judiciary Committee revealed that federal agencies had coordinated with tech companies on content moderation. Critics argue this amounted to political interference, especially when it came to discussions about the election.
“This can’t be allowed to happen again in America,” Trump posted. “What these corrupt cronies have done to our country is beyond description.”
As of now, no action has been taken by the Department of Justice to respond to Trump’s request. Special prosecutors are typically appointed for politically sensitive cases to avoid conflicts of interest—but only with approval from DOJ leadership.
With the 2026 midterms approaching and election integrity once again a top concern for Republican voters, Trump’s renewed push is likely to become a rallying cry—and a key issue in the coming political battles.
