Jill Biden’s Top Aide Subpoenaed in Explosive GOP Probe Into Biden’s Cognitive Health

Jill Biden’s Top Aide Subpoenaed in GOP Investigation Into Biden’s Mental Fitness

Anthony Bernal, a longtime senior adviser to the Biden family and a trusted confidant of Jill Biden, has been subpoenaed by House Republicans as part of a widening investigation into whether the White House concealed signs of Joe Biden’s cognitive decline during his presidency.

Bernal, often referred to in Washington circles as the First Lady’s “work husband” due to their close professional relationship, reportedly refused to participate in a voluntary transcribed interview with the House Oversight Committee. This led Committee Chairman Rep. James Comer (R-KY) to issue a subpoena requiring Bernal to appear for a deposition on July 16.

In a letter addressed to Bernal, Comer stated the committee is examining whether senior staff played a role in hiding or minimizing concerns over President Biden’s ability to carry out his duties. The inquiry is also considering legislative reforms related to the 25th Amendment, specifically Section 4, which outlines procedures for handling presidential incapacity.

“Given your close connection with both former President Biden and former First Lady Jill Biden, the Committee sought to understand if you contributed to an effort to hide former President Biden’s fitness to serve from the American people,” Comer wrote.

This subpoena follows earlier action taken against Dr. Kevin O’Connor, Biden’s personal physician, who is also being asked to provide information on the president’s health assessments and whether any information was withheld from the public.

The investigation gained traction after Bernal’s name surfaced in a Project Veritas video, where Democratic activist David Hogg allegedly claimed that Bernal “ran the White House” during Biden’s term. The comment has fueled further questions about the behind-the-scenes power structure and the extent of Bernal’s influence.

Sources say the committee is exploring whether individuals within the administration attempted to shield the president from public scrutiny by controlling messaging or medical disclosures.

This case adds to ongoing Republican efforts to probe the transparency of the Biden administration regarding the president’s mental and physical condition, suggesting potential gaps in oversight that may warrant new laws or protocols.

Bernal’s appearance will be closely watched as lawmakers continue to unravel what some see as a deliberate cover-up of Biden’s capacity to lead.
