White House Border Czar Tom Homan condemned CNN on Monday for promoting an app called ICEBlock, which allows users to track ICE agents in real time. Homan called on the Justice Department to investigate the app.
ICEBlock lets users report ICE agent locations on a map, sending alerts to others nearby. CNN featured the app on-air, prompting criticism from the White House.
“It sounds like this would incite violence against our ICE officers,” said White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt. “It’s unacceptable that a major network would promote such an app encouraging attacks on law enforcement.”
Homan called the app “disgusting” and warned, “It’s only a matter of time before ICE officers are ambushed — like what happened in L.A. with Molotov cocktails and bricks.”
CNN’s Clare Duffy noted the developer said the app is intended for users to avoid ICE, not interfere with their operations.
Homan stressed this is not a partisan issue, highlighting that assaults on ICE agents have risen 500%. He said, “These officers put their lives on the line every day going after the worst of the worst. This app makes it even more dangerous.”
He added, “It’s incredible that those enforcing the law are being painted as the bad guys.”
