Crockett Slams Trump Supporters, Then Calls for Bipartisanship — Critics Cry Hypocrisy

During a recent interview, Democratic Representative Jasmine Crockett (TX) stirred controversy by calling Trump supporters “mentally ill” — just moments before urging for bipartisan unity to stop him.

Speaking with Katie Couric on Next Question, Crockett addressed the escalating unrest in Los Angeles following President Donald Trump’s deployment of military forces to manage protests tied to immigration enforcement.

“This man is obsessed with revenge,” Crockett said, criticizing Trump’s handling of dissent and his use of the military. “He treats service members like his personal army. That’s sick. And honestly, anyone who supports that behavior is sick too.”

Despite the inflammatory rhetoric, Crockett later insisted her concerns aren’t rooted in partisanship. “We’re in a national mental health crisis,” she said. “Regardless of political identity, no one should be backing Trump at this point. This isn’t about Democrats versus Republicans — this is about right versus wrong.”

The congresswoman went on to lament the state of U.S. leadership and expressed nostalgia for a more moderate Republican past. “Give me George Bush back,” she said. “At least then there was some level of decency. What we have now is dangerous.”

Ironically, Crockett ended her remarks by calling for bipartisan cooperation to confront what she described as the real threat — Trump. “We need to come together as Americans and say ‘enough is enough.’ Our democracy is at stake.”

Her critics were quick to highlight the contradiction: labeling millions of Americans as mentally unstable and then expecting collaboration across the aisle. Some political commentators have called it “tone-deaf” and “self-sabotaging.”

Crockett is no stranger to headline-making statements. Earlier this year, she faced backlash for mocking Texas Governor Greg Abbott’s disability and has openly admitted that opposing Trump is her top priority in Congress.

Despite the uproar, she’s now campaigning to lead the House Oversight Committee and has vowed to launch an impeachment inquiry against Trump if given the chance.

As Trump continues to hold strong favor among Republican voters — with 89% approval in a recent NBC News poll — Crockett’s comments are likely to fuel further division in an already polarized political landscape.

Whether her passionate plea for unity will resonate or backfire remains to be seen.
