Bongino Claims Discovery of Hidden Room with Evidence from Comey’s Tenure at FBI Headquarters

FBI Deputy Director Dan Bongino claimed Thursday that a previously undisclosed room filled with evidence from former Director James Comey’s tenure has been uncovered at FBI headquarters in Washington, D.C.

The revelation came during a live appearance on Fox & Friends, where Bongino described what he called a “significant internal discovery” made just weeks after he assumed the role of Deputy Director earlier this year.

According to Bongino, the room contained numerous boxes of documents and materials—some of which, he asserted, date back to investigations during Comey’s leadership between 2013 and 2017.

“There was a room and we found a lot of stuff. I wouldn’t call it hidden, but it wasn’t disclosed to us. And a lot of it’s from the Comey era,” Bongino said during the interview.

While he declined to provide specifics about the contents, Bongino suggested that the materials could have major legal and political consequences once reviewed and potentially declassified. He emphasized that efforts are underway to examine and release the documents to the public.

“We’re working to declassify this material,” Bongino said. “And when you see what’s in there, I think you’re going to be shocked.”

The claims come amid renewed internal reviews within the FBI, including the reopening of certain cases from the Biden administration that Bongino described as having “significant public interest.” Bongino, a former Secret Service agent and conservative commentator, was appointed to his current role under the Trump administration earlier this year.

Questions remain, however, about the nature and origin of the room and the documents inside. As of Friday morning, the FBI has not confirmed Bongino’s account, nor has it issued any statements regarding the existence of such a room or plans to declassify related materials.

Bongino also addressed ongoing concerns about lingering institutional divisions at the Bureau, particularly with regard to officials tied to prior leadership. “There are still people in the building loyal to the old guard,” he said. “But there are also many agents here who want transparency and accountability.”

The former FBI Director, James Comey, has not responded publicly to the claims. Comey, who has remained a prominent and often polarizing figure in American political discourse, was dismissed in 2017 by President Trump amid controversy over the FBI’s handling of several politically sensitive investigations.

This alleged discovery adds another layer of tension between current FBI leadership and former officials. Earlier this week, Bongino and FBI Director Kash Patel condemned a now-deleted Instagram post by Comey that they interpreted as a veiled reference to Trump. No formal inquiry into the post has been confirmed.

At this time, the specific contents of the alleged evidence remain unknown, and independent verification of Bongino’s claims has not been made. The FBI has also not provided a timeline for any potential release of the documents.
