Elon Musk’s social media platform X was largely restored for most users on Saturday after an outage disrupted service for tens of thousands across the United States, according to outage tracking site Downdetector.com. In response, Musk commented that he is “back to spending 24/7” at his companies.
At the outage’s peak around 8:51 a.m. ET, Downdetector recorded over 25,800 user reports of issues with the platform. By 11:26 a.m. ET, the number of reported outages had dropped to fewer than 500.
“Back to spending 24/7 at work and sleeping in conference/server/factory rooms. I must be super focused on X/xAI and Tesla (plus Starship launch next week), as we have critical technologies rolling out,” Musk said in an X post.
According to Downdetector data, thousands of users in other countries—including Germany, Spain, France, India, Canada, Australia, and the United Kingdom—also experienced difficulties accessing the platform during the peak of the outage. X has not yet responded to a request for comment from Reuters regarding the disruption, The Economic Times reported.
Musk, who spent nearly $300 million last year supporting U.S. President Donald Trump’s campaign and other Republican candidates, announced on Tuesday that he plans to significantly reduce his political spending. The move signals a renewed focus on his business ventures amid increasing concerns from investors.
Musk led the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), an initiative aimed at cutting tens of thousands of federal jobs and canceling billions of dollars in contracts and grants. However, his outspoken political views sparked widespread protests against Tesla in both the U.S. and Europe, contributing to a decline in sales. The automaker ultimately reported its first annual drop in vehicle deliveries last year.
Musk’s time commitment to Tesla has been a point of concern for some investors. In an effort to reassure them, he announced last month that, starting in May, he would scale back his involvement with DOGE to just one or two days per week, the outlet reported.
