President Donald Trump has issued a startling statement about the influencer he selected for Surgeon General, just days after hailing her as “one of the best.”
On Wednesday (May 7), Trump unexpectedly named wellness figure and health tech entrepreneur Casey Means as his choice for Surgeon General of the United States.
The nomination surprised many after reports confirmed that Means is not currently a licensed, practicing doctor.
At the time, Trump praised her, saying she had a “truly exceptional” track record and could become “one of the greatest Surgeon Generals in American history.”
But just a day later, Trump changed his tone, claiming he doesn’t really know who Means is.
Casey Means was announced as the next nominee for the nation’s top medical office.
When asked by a journalist, “You named a new Surgeon General nominee who hasn’t finished residency or worked as a physician. Why did you pick her?” Trump responded:
“Bobby said she was incredible, a smart woman from Stanford, and from what I’ve heard, she aimed to be an academic, not a surgeon.
“I think she graduated top of her class at Stanford, and Bobby thought very highly of her. I don’t know her, I just trusted Bobby’s advice.
“I met her just yesterday and once before that — she seems like a really impressive person and a true academic, so I believe she’ll do well.”
“Bobby” is Robert F. Kennedy Jr., who is currently the U.S. Secretary of Health and Human Services.
President Trump has since claimed he’s unfamiliar with the influencer.
His remarks have stirred unease online, where many questioned Trump’s judgment, with some shocked he admitted to not knowing the woman he nominated.
One X user wrote: “So she’s book-smart and passed exams, but no experience with surgery or patient care. But hey, Bobby approves — that’s what matters.”
Another said: “Trump claims she was top of her class at Stanford. Her bio says she got honors for a BA and MD there. If she really topped the class, wouldn’t she mention it? Sounds like another Trump exaggeration.”
And a third user posted: “Not licensed. No residency. Trump doesn’t know her. Perfect fit for MAGA leadership.”
